I don't really know how I feel about this. I mean they have no idea the long term effects this vacine will have. They have only been working on this vacine since this Spring/Summer.

Any thoughts?

It's a flu shot, targeted at a specific strain of flu. Not much of anything different than any other year... I think there is just more to-do about it because it is a much higher profile flu than normal.

So this would be why they had the vaccine in such a short amount of time? I do understand this is just a flu but different strain.

I don't believe there is actually much time difference between the regular flu vaccine, available for a week or so now, and the H1N1 just now out of production. I don't think there is that big of a difference in the start to finish time in either of them.
That said, since it is simply another strain of flu, the production technique should not be much different at all. I don't think there will be a problem with it.

Metta, sorry to hear that your kids came down with it but I am glad to hear they are okay!
I am quite concerned about my daughter. She is 7 and has asthma. It is under control but flu will be REALLY hard on her.

Interesting...I was too young to remember that.
In that case though, only 1 person died. More have already died with this flu. It appears to be more serious than that of 76 but is it an epidemic like the 1918? Don't know. Since vaccinations are going out we won't ever get to know. I agree with the article part where it talked about no-win. If you success**lly defeat it with vaccinations...how do you know? If you p*** on it and it kills thousands then the government failed its job...
I think flu vaccinations have come a long way since 76 though so there is that hope**l aspect.

That was my point. More died of the vaccination then they did with the virus.

But had the vaccination not been given would the number of flu deaths still been the same? You can't quantify how many people avoided being infected and therefore dying compared to a flu that just ended up being a dud. The CDC is going to interrupt the process of the flu and that negates any ability to really quantify the success of it. In combating the flu with vaccinations, who can tell how many times it might have mutated had it been allowed to run free through the population. Perhaps one mutation would have made it a 1918 impact....won't know. It's difficult to measure when success is defined by the flu your are combating being so reduced that it appears to have never been an issue. Did you kick it's **** or was it a complete waste? Don't know. Can't measure it because you killed the ability when you killed the virus.
